Effect of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction vs Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or Usual Care on Back Pain and Functional Limitations in Adults With Chronic Low Back Pain
Interventions: CBT (training to change pain-related thoughts and behaviors)
The main results measured were the percentage of people who got much better (at least 30% improvement) in how well they could move and do daily activities (measured by a special test called the RDQ, which goes from 0 to 23) and how much their back pain bothered them (on a scale from 0 to 10) after 26 weeks. These results were also checked at 4 weeks, 8 weeks, and 52 weeks.
Cognitive functional therapy compared with a group-based exercise and education intervention for chronic low back pain: a multicentre randomised controlled trial (RCT)
Background: An individualised intervention called cognitive functional therapy (CFT) and compared it with manual therapy and exercise in one randomised controlled trial (RCT)
CFT helped people move better and do more (less disability) than the group program at 6 months (about 8.65 points better) and 12 months (about 7.02 points better). But it did not make a big difference in how much pain they felt at 6 months or 12 months.
Conclusion: CFT helped people with their daily activities but didn’t lower their pain compared to the group program. More studies are needed to see if CFT’s better results in movement and activities are really helpful for patients and health systems.
Advanced Manual Therapy Approach for the Management of Non-specific Low Back Pain: A Case Report
Abstract: In this case, a medical student with pain on a scale of 8/10 on activity came to the physiotherapy department for rehabilitation and pain relief.
The result of the treatment was that the medical student’s lower back pain improved, and her ability to bend her back (lumbar flexion) got better after receiving physiotherapy. The Integrated Neuromuscular Inhibition Technique (INIT), combined with regular physiotherapy, helped reduce her pain and made it easier for her to move. This shows that early physiotherapy can be effective in managing chronic low back pain and improving functional abilities.
